What is Bellycasting?
Bellycasting refers to the process of making a plaster cast of a woman's pregnant belly. A bellycast captures the pregnant form which has been shaped by your baby from within. Casts are then able to be appreciated for many years to come. Celebrations such as bellycasting can help us reconnect with the joy of pregnancy. The finished cast is also a blank canvas for creative expression with many women choosing to decorate their finished cast.
How is a Bellycast done?
A natural barrier cream is rubbed into the skin before warm strips of premium quality plaster are applied to make the cast. The bellycast is then left to dry for 48 hours. The cast can be left natural or can be finished (sanded, primed and string attached).
When should I have my bellycast?
Casting usually takes place at around 37 weeks. A bellycast can, however be done at any time. We have cast women at 3 weeks past due date! Some women like to have more than one cast done. Periodic casting sessions throughout the pregnancy are a great way to see the changing shape of your body.
The ‘Love to Birth’ Bellycasting Experience
There are two main options for casting a pregnant belly. ‘Full Belly and Breasts’ are great if you would like to hang the finished cast. Alternatively, a ‘Belly Bowl’ is a very space efficient and useful way of rendering your pregnant form. At the ‘Love to Birth’, we appreciate that all bellies are unique. Each casting session is seen as an artistic process. We will work with you to create a cast that best reveals your body shape and best suits your lifestyle needs.
We offer professional bellycasting sessions in the magical surrounds of the ‘Love to Birth’ Studio. The studio is a peaceful 5 minute drive out of Bellingen. Sit back and be inspired by the views over the Thora Valley (traditional birthing place of the Gumbayngiiri people) and up to the Dorrigo escarpment while your bellycast is created. We also offer a home visit service. In the comfort of your own home, the casting can be a private event shared with your family. Or perhaps you would prefer to celebrate this occasion at your Baby shower or Blessingway.
